It is a 2.5-stage kerolox launch vehicle able to boost 12 tonnes to LEO or 8 tonnes to a 500 km sun synchronous orbit. Lijian 2 uses three side-by-side Common Boosters, each powered by three YF-102 gas generator engines. It succeeded in its inaugural launch from a new launch site (140) at Jiquan on March 30, 2026. Lijian 2 weighs about 6% more than a Falcon 9 v1.2 at launch, but it catalogs a much smaller initial payload capability. This conservative design may offer substantial payload growth in the future.
