It is a small, four-stae launch vehicle, standing 22 meters with a 1.7 meter diameter first stage, that can lift 290 kg to a 500 km sun synchronous orbit or 480 kg to a 500 km x 45 deg low Earth orbit. The carbon composite Kalam-1200 first stage became India's largest monolithic solid motor to launch when it flew. The Kalam-250 second stage uses thrust vector control for steering. The OAM liquid bipropellant fourth stage uses RCS thrusters for attitude control. The stage uses 3D-printed liquid engines.
